Editor Selection Process and Criteria

Process and Criteria for Selection of Editorial Board and Advisory Board Members:

The Editor-in-Chief is appointed by the Board of Trustees of the Philippine Society of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (PSO-HNS) for three-year terms, renewable every three years, while the appointing body (Board of Trustees) only have one-year terms of office. In this manner, Editors-in-Chief of the PJOHNS are never co-terminus with the President and officers of the PSO-HNS who appointed them.

Associate Editors are appointed solely by the Editor-in-Chief, while the Managing Editor is appointed by the Editor-in- Chief in consultation with the Board of Trustees of the Philippine Society of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (PSO-HNS). The Editorial Assistant is employed by the PSO-HNS with the approval of the Editor-in-Chief upon recommendation of the Managing Editor.

Our Editor-in-Chief is selected on the basis of minimum knowledge, skills, and characteristics described in the Consensus Statement on Core Competencies for Scientific Editors of Biomedical Journals (Moher, D., Galipeau, J., Alam, S. et al. 1. Editor qualities and skills
2. Publication ethics and research integrity
3. Editorial principles and processes

Our Editorial Board Members are selected on the basis of:

1. Their expertise and experience in their respective sub specialty fields
2. Geographical and Gender distribution
3. Contribution to the journal (as a former/present peer reviewer, etc.)
4. Editorial Core Competencies

Our Editorial Advisory Board consists of past Editors-in-Chief and eminent Otolaryngologists-Researchers-Reviewers also representing diverse gender and locations, who also serve as reviewers, and help guide policies.
