On November 13, 2024, my father, Dr. Remigio I. Jarin, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family. He was just five days shy of his 90th birthday. Though he lived a long life, it still felt as if the time passed too quickly.
The sharp ache of his absence has been softened by the kind words shared by his patients, friends and especially our ENT colleagues. Yet no comfort can truly ease the sorrow of losing him.
Dr. Remigio Jarin was a rare and exceptional soul, one whose influence extended far beyond his esteemed position and profession. He was not just a doctor, but a guiding light to so many.
As a father and head of our family, he was known for his humor, often wrapped in sarcasm, but beneath it all, he instilled in his children a deep reverence for family, a strong work ethic, and the unwavering power of prayer. His lessons remain with us even in his absence.
His role as Chairman of the Department of ENT-HNS at UERMMMC and East Avenue Medical Center and as consultant at The Medical City extended more than being a mentor. He was a father to many of his residents and juniors whom he advised, supported and inspired. His words of wisdom emphasized duty, academic excellence, and most importantly, compassion for those in their care.
As former President of the PSO-HNS and PBO-HNS, his contributions alongside his colleagues upheld the standards of ENT practice in our community. His leadership was not simply defined by practicality but by the warmth and integrity with which he navigated those around him.
His passion for Otolaryngology went beyond performing surgeries or offering medical advice. He healed lives, offering genuine care, friendship and reassurance to his patients. In every interaction, he brought more than knowledge: he brought a sense of peace.
Even in his later years, when he took up distance running as a hobby, his perseverance and discipline were evident. Completing marathons was not just a physical feat for him, it reflected the determination that marked his approach to life and to his career. His relentless pursuit of goals and his drive to finish what he started, inspired everyone who knew him.
Dad, I am so proud of you. You fought the good fight and finished the race. The void you leave behind is heartbreaking and I miss you deeply.
